Pier 70 Historic Core Revitalization
The revitalization of San Francisco’s Pier 70 Historic Core stands as a landmark project in adaptive reuse and sustainable urban redevelopment. Originally home to Bethlehem Steel and Union Iron Works, the site’s transformation focused on preserving its rich industrial legacy while adapting it for modern public use.
As part of this restoration, the cobbled streets required a jointing solution that could handle high foot and vehicle traffic, allow water permeability, and withstand intensive cleaning routines. ROMEX was chosen to supply the jointing mortar for this demanding environment.

Solea Hotel Grounds
In hospitality design, outdoor spaces need to do more than look attractive. They need to perform under constant foot traffic, stay low maintenance over time, and support a smooth guest experience. For landscape architects, specifiers and designers, loose gravel in a public courtyard can quickly become a problem if it shifts, scatters, or creates an uneven walking surface.
That was the challenge at the Solea Hotel in Carlsbad, California, where the design team wanted the natural look of aggregate without the long-term issues that typically come with loose gravel. To help bring that vision to life, Elite Landscape Development installed a ROMEX PROFI-DEKO system across approximately 2,000 square feet of courtyard space in 2025, creating a surface that was stable, permeable, and better suited for a busy hospitality environment.

San Francisco Japanese Tea Garden
Tucked inside the heart of Golden Gate Park, the Japanese Tea Garden has welcomed visitors from around the world for more than a century. What began as a small “Japanese Village” for the 1894 California Midwinter International Exposition has grown into a five-acre refuge of bridges, pagodas, koi ponds, and winding stone paths.
Today, over one million people pass through the garden every year, seeking a moment of calm among cherry blossoms and carefully composed vistas. By 2025, that constant foot traffic had begun to take a toll on one key element of the experience: the pathways and plaza areas. The City of San Francisco Parks Department needed a surface that could stand up to the crowds while preserving the garden’s timeless, natural character.
