Founded in 1989 in Rheinbach, Germany, ROMEX has grown into a globally recognized name in hardscape construction materials, with installations in more than 50 countries worldwide. What began as a vision for better construction chemical solutions has become a long-standing legacy of innovation, durability, and quality.
Today, ROMEX North America is proud to be part of the global ROMEX team, supplying the market with some of the world’s most resilient permeable hardscape technologies. Backed by nearly 40 years of success, ROMEX continues to support architects, designers, engineers, contractors, and property owners with not only premium products, but also expert advice, planning support, estimates, installer training, and world-class customer service.
Built on Experience
The roots of ROMEX stretch back even further than the company’s founding. Between 1970 and 1980, Germany experienced rapid growth in the development of epoxy resin and polyurethane technologies, with more than 300 manufacturers active in markets such as bridge coatings and industrial floor coatings.
During this important period of innovation, ROMEX founder Rolf Meurer played a major role in the industry. As the head of a production and sales company, he was deeply involved in the development of these advanced chemical systems. In 1986, together with his technicians, he produced the first synthetic resin jointing compound — laying the groundwork for what would eventually become ROMEX.
The Beginning of ROMEX
In 1989, ROMEX GmbH was officially founded in Rheinbach, marking the start of a success story in construction chemicals that continues to grow. From the very beginning, the company focused on delivering innovative solutions for both industrial flooring and hardscape construction while maintaining a strong commitment to quality, performance, and sustainability.
ROMEX quickly became a market leader in the field of epoxy resin floor coatings, earning the trust of global partners such as Ford Motor Group, GM, Audi, Lufthansa, and Meggle, as well as landmark venues including the Uber Arena in Berlin, the Olympic Stadium in Kyiv, and the National Stadium in Tashkent.
Over the decades, ROMEX earned an outstanding reputation around the world for creating systems that solve real installation and long-term performance challenges. This commitment to excellence has helped ROMEX become a trusted partner on projects ranging from residential applications to large-scale public spaces.

As part of the global ROMEX team, ROMEX North America continues to bring proven German engineering to the North American hardscape market. Importantly, the majority of our products and packaging are manufactured and assembled right here on the North American continent — combining the innovation of our German roots with local production and service.
