Lakefront Cottage

In 2024, a homeowner in North Jersey undertook a renovation project for their lakefront cottage. Given the property’s small land parcel and its exposure to frequent heavy rainstorms in summer and substantial snowfall in winter, effective water management was a critical concern. The project required a sustainable and regulatory-compliant solution to prevent flooding and enhance durability, particularly for the driveway and lakeside patio.

PRODUCT SELECTION

To address these challenges, ROMEX products were selected for their superior permeability and durability. The driveway incorporated ROMEX FUGENSAND and D7000 jointing products, which facilitate water infiltration and prevent runoff-related issues. For the lakeside patio, ROMEX ECOFINE was chosen for its high permeability and ability to maintain a stable, low-maintenance surface.

PROJECT LOCATION

PROJECT NEEDS

One of the primary concerns was the sloped driveway, which directed water toward the house and garage, posing a significant flooding risk. Additionally, the lakeside patio required a solution that would not only improve drainage but also enhance aesthetic appeal and long-term stability. The project needed to comply with local regulations for permeable surfaces while providing a functional and visually appealing hardscape.

PROJECT SOLUTION

By integrating ROMEX jointing products, the renovation successfully mitigated water management challenges. The combination of ROMEX FUGENSAND and D7000 in the driveway allowed water to pass through the joints, naturally filtering into the ground and redirecting excess water away from the house. Meanwhile, ROMEX ECOFINE on the patio created a seamless, durable surface that enhanced both permeability and aesthetic value.

The result was a stable, long-lasting driveway and patio that effectively manage stormwater, reducing the risk of flooding and erosion. Additionally, the surfaces remain pressure-washer safe and low-maintenance, ensuring long-term durability and compliance with environmental regulations. The integration of permeable hardscaping solutions has provided the homeowner with a functional, visually appealing, and sustainable outdoor space.
