the worlds biggest Trass Bed rooftop project
The world’s largest TRASS BED rooftop project is the 200,000 sqft renewal of Simon Fraser University’s iconic Convocation Mall, Academic Quadrangle, and surrounding walkways on Burnaby Mountain. Because the plaza also serves as a roof over occupied spaces below, the project demanded a hardscape system that could deliver strength, drainage, and long-term reliability.
By using the ROMEX System Guarantee (RSG) assembly, which combines permeable TRASS BED, ADHESION ELUTRIANT, and ROMEX jointing mortar, the design team created a fully bonded, drainable rooftop surface built to withstand heavy pedestrian traffic, light vehicle loads, and Burnaby’s high rainfall without ponding. The result is a permeable, bi-level draining mortar system that provides a solid, wind-secure surface with lasting durability and freeze-thaw resistance, all while working within tight build- up constraints of just 3.5 to 6 inches to maintain existing thresholds across the heritage campus.
