The sample was subjected to 50 freeze-thaw cycles, simulating extreme weather conditions, and showed no visible decay in the paver units, jointing, bedding, or thin-set. The key to this durability lies in our TRASS BED paver bedding, which is engineered with up to 50% void space. Since water only expands by about 10% when it freezes, there is ample room for this expansion within the TRASS BED, preventing the pressure buildup that can cause other materials and bonded systems to crack or fail. This design ensures that ROMEX maintains its structural integrity and aesthetic appeal even after repeated freeze-thaw cycles, offering a long-lasting and reliable solution for cold climates. In consultation with ROMEX we will ensure the paving system allows the water to pass through and away. If you remove water you will not have frost heave, so with ROMEX products you have two defences against frost heave, its porous structure as well as appropriate paving system design.
